Was your injury/complaint due to a car or bike accident?

These can be some of the most severe injuries, and coming more frequently, at first can decrease the amount of chronic pain that can be there in the future.

For the first 6 weeks, coming at lease 1x/week, even 2x/week, can make a huge difference. If you are going to chiro/physio as well, alternating between them is best.

After 6 weeks, your therapist might suggest coming ever 2 weeks, and continuing this until you are relatively pain free. Once you are in a place where you are pain free most of the time, coming once a month for maintenance is ideal to prevent injuries or flare-ups from reoccurring.

Was it because of a sports injury or an injury at work?

Depending on the mechanism of injury, they can also be very severe. Coming once every week or once every 2 weeks until the pain has subsided, and then coming once a month to maintain.

Is your pain from sitting/standing/using your body at work?

Coming 1-2x/week is a great start to decrease chronic pain from our postures at work. Once you get to a place where you feel like you’re relatively pain free most of the day, coming once a month is a great way to maintain that.

No injuries, but want to relax/maintain?

If there are no immediate injuries or pains to address, coming once a months is a great way to stay pain free. If you wait too long, something that started off small, could grow into something more constant, which might not be as quick to address. Coming once a month will help address those pains before they become something that is constantly there.

These are just suggestions, your therapist might suggest something different based on your injury. And if this doesn’t fit in with your life, don’t worry! Any amount of massage is a good amount of massage.
